About

 Leanne Couch

Leanne is an experienced facilitator in Safeguarding and Child Protection Training, with extensive knowledge in supporting sport organisations across NZ, from small sport clubs to regional and national sport organisations. She has a BSc (Hons) in Sport, Health and Fitness Training from the University of Bath and has gained a variety of sport coaching qualifications.

With a multitude of experience working with young people through various roles over the last 15 years, she found her drive to dedicate her time and energy to really help young people through sport and utilising it as as a vehicle to positively enhance their lives and to create life skills to become the best version of themselves.

Leanne currently contracts to ACC, to deliver the sexual violence prevention programme 'Mates & Dates' in high schools across the Waikato, working with hundreds of rangatahi in years 9-13 each week facilitating sessions on healthy/safe behaviours in relationships and also unhealthy/harmful behaviours and ensuring our young people are supported if they disclose abuse.

Leanne also contracts to the organisation 'Safeguarding Children' as their sport subject matter expert, and has worked alongside them to design online training for sport clubs and after school care workers.

Leanne has experience working in the junior sport system in Australia, England, USA and New Zealand. Her roles have varied from teaching primary school Physical Education, delivering youth leadership programmes in secondary schools and coaching at sports clubs. More recently Leanne spent 3 years working in a Regional Sports Trust, developing sport behind the scenes.

Before leaving the UK to live in NZ, Leanne was contracted to work with Sport England for 3 years.  In this role she worked closely with the Safeguarding Team, developing ways to enrich young people's lives through sport.  Her experience of working with those children most at risk of slipping through the cracks has been a driving force of her work here in New Zealand where she has continued to consolidate and grow her knowledge.

Leanne was a Board Member at Parafed Manawatu for 2 years before moving to Waikato. The organisation provides  sporting and recreational opportunities for people with physical disabilities. A role she enjoyed through advocacy and working with the community.

Recently Leanne has been supporting a former refugee family resettle in Palmerston North through the Red Cross. Leanne helps the family with building their new life in New Zealand and offers support to guide them through the process of everyday life and adapting to the culture and NZ way of life.
